Faraway Wanderers - Chapter 34

Wherein ZZS gets... tempted.

Also, something weird happened on with chapter 13, so I had to repost it. Sorry to the lovely comments and likes it deleted. :c

And finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the wonderful Emma P who has been proofreading for me, making the translation way better! <3<3

Notes

1. All fictional, respectively:

  • 阴阳册 lit. "Yin Yang Book".

  • 封山剑 translated literally and mentioned in the previous chapter.

  • 六合神功 lit. "Miraculous Kung-fu of the Six Combination". Referred to as 六合心法 (lit. "heart method of the six combinations") in the web-series, which is a mix between "The Method" and this one as, irrc, "The Method" got deleted. The "Six Combinations" refers to the six cardinal directions a.k.a. the universe.

2. 螳螂捕蝉黄雀在后 translated literally. The idiom is prominently featured in the web-series and can be understood literally in context. It generally means pursuing a small gain whilst missing out on the greater picture.

3. Refers to 二桃杀三士 or "The Two Peaches That Killed the Three Generals". A story from the Tales of Yanzi in which the famous strategist advised the King of Qi to bestow two peaches upon his three most powerful generals. The infighting over who was worthy of getting a whole peach that ensued prevented any of them to usurp power. CWN is getting his fruit wrong here.

4. Refers to "逝者如斯夫" or "the passage of time is just like the flow of water", a famous quote by Confucius. The original joke is CWN misinterpreting 逝者 ("things that pass", meaning "time" in context) as meaning "corpses". He is also confusing Confucius with Laozi.

5. The original insult is something along the line of "Lord Plague who's been despicable for eight generations".

6. Though it resembles the three monkeys' adage, ZZS is actually quoting Confucius who, according to his disciple Yan Yuan, is said to have instructed on the subject of self-restraint: "非礼勿视,非礼勿听,非礼勿言,非礼勿动" or "do not see things that aren't proper, do not hear things that aren't proper, do not speak things that aren't proper, do not touch things that are not proper".

Poor WKX, I think he's forged a permanent relationship with vinegar/jealousy 😂

And why does ZZS not want Lord Seventh to come over to the Central Plains? 👀
